Day 1 Arrival Kota Kinabalu

Upon arrival, meet and transfer to Beverly Hotel for overnight.

Day 2 Kota Kinabalu City Tour (3 Hours) – Night Tour (2½ Hours) (B, D)

Formerly known as Jesselton, and now better known as KK, Kota Kinabalu is fast becoming a major city with excellent infrastructure and amenities. Highlights of this city tour include a view of the Yayasan Sabah (Sabah Foundation building) one of the few buildings in the world to utilize a single column structure, the Phu Thou Se Chinese Temple, the observation tower on Signal Hill for excellent views, the Sabah State Mosque and the Sabah Museum, home to fine exhibits that chronicle Sabah’s fascinating historical past and rich cultural heritage. At dusk, Kota Kinabalu’s waterfront is transformed into a bustling night market; dominated by scores of open air food stalls selling everything from BBQ fish to fried rice and noodles to sweet doughnuts and banana fritters. All are cooked on the spot resulting in a smokey, fragrant atmosphere. Nearby the market traders continue to sell their fresh fruit and vegetables well into the night. This is when the best bargains are to be had and unusual and exotic fruits grown on the rich soils of Mt. Kinabalu are there to be tried and tasted. Finally a chance to wander along the more modern KK waterfront, a seaside strip of small restaurants and coffee bars that are an evening focal point for much of KK’s younger set. The evening culminates at a nearby seafood restaurant. KK boasts some of the finest seafood in Malaysia and a seafood dinner is a must for any visitor. Overnight at Beverly Hotel.

Day 3 Cultural Tour (4 Hours) – River Safari (Afternoon Until Night) (B, D)

Take a leisurely drive into the countryside, passing by rice fields and megaliths. You will see the typical village of the “Kadazandusun”, Sabah’s largest ethnic group. At the Monsopiad Cultural Village, you will have the opportunity to meet with the descendant of the famous “Monsopiad”, who was known as the greatest headhunter warrior in the early century. His collection of skulls is hung in a house specially built for this. It is a telling story of the Borneo Headhunter. Our journey begins in the early afternoon, passing through padi fields, small kampungs and oil palm plantations. Our destination is the Garama/Klias Wetlands, some 25 km south of Beaufort, a beautiful environment of rivers, mangrove forest and sago palms. This is home to the unique proboscis monkey (Nasalis Larvatus), endemic only to Borneo. In the late afternoon, as our small open boat drifts past the mangrove, groups of these amazing animals make their way to the riverbank before settling down for the evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to watch these animals in the wild as dusk falls. Upon return, witness the glittering fireflies on the nearby trees. Dinner is provided, before the return road trip back to Kota Kinabalu. Overnight at Beverly Hotel.

Day 4 Sapi Or Manukan Daytrip – Rasa Ria (B, L)

Pick from your hotel and transfer to the jetty. Just 15 minutes’ boat ride from Kota Kinabalu are the beautiful coral islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. Offering pristine white beaches, clear water and coral reefs, this is the perfect getaway from the town. Take a short boat ride to one of the outlying islands for a day of relaxation and swimming. Mask and snorkel will be provided, plus a barbeque lunch. Basic washroom facilities are available on the island, and your return will be mid-afternoon. Check-out from hotel and transfer to Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort for overnight.

Day 5 Poring Hot Spring & Kinabalu Park (10 Hours) (B, L)

Depart early morning for a 2 hrs drive to Poring Hot Spring. En route, make a stop at Nabalu village to savour local fruits and to buy local handicrafts. Upon arrival, observe wildlife on the canopy walkway 100 feet above the forest floor and take a dip in one of the soothing, hot mineral springs set in beautifully landscaped gardens. Proceed to the World Heritage site of Kinabalu Park. Explore the mountain gardens – home to many species of orchids, pitcher plants, birds, insects and butterflies – with your guide before returning to your resort in the late afternoon. Overnight at Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort.

Day 6 Rasa Ria (B)

Free at leisure. Overnight at Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort.
