Rafting on the Kiulu River in Sabah, Malaysia

Day 1 Arrival Kota Kinabalu

Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport, met and transfer to hotel of your choice. Rest of the day is free at leisure. Overnight in City Hotel.

Day 2 Mari Mari Cultural Village – River Safari Park (B, L, D)

Pick up from your hotel and transfer to Mari-Mari Cultural village. As you walk through the village you will find demonstration huts featuring the varied lifestyles of the tribal people of Sabah. Daily activities come to life such as blowpipe making, starting a fire, tattoo-making and more. By the end of your journey through this living museum you will have been given a fascinating insight and feel of the unique cultural history of Sabah.

After lunch, continue overland by road passing through padi fields, small kampungs and oil palm plantations. Our destination is the Garama / Klias Wetlands, some 25 km south of Beaufort, a beautiful environment of rivers, mangrove forest and sago palms. This is home to the unique proboscis monkey (Nasalis Larvatus), endemic only to Borneo. In the late afternoon, as our small open boat drifts past the mangrove, groups of these amazing animals make their way to the riverbank before settling down for the evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to watch these animals in the wild as dusk falls. Upon return, witness the glittering fireflies on the nearby trees. Dinner is provided, before the return road trip back to Kota Kinabalu (approx. back to the hotel by 2130 hrs). Overnight at City Hotel.

Day 3 Poring Hot Spring – Kinabalu Park (B, L)

Depart early morning for a 3-hrs drive to Poring Hot Spring. En route, make a stop at Nabalu village to savour local fruits and to shop for local handicrafts. Upon arrival, observe wildlife on the canopy walkway 100 feet above the forest floor and take a dip in one of the soothing, hot mineral springs set in beautifully landscaped gardens. Proceed to the World Heritage site of Kinabalu Park. Explore the mountain gardens – home to many species of orchids, pitcher plants, birds, insects and butterflies – with your guide before returning to Kota Kinabalu in the late afternoon. Overnight at City Hotel.

Day 4 White Water Rafting Kiulu – (B, L)

Take a 90-minute drive to the countryside. Kiulu River is suitable for the novice rafter. Raft through scenic countryside view. Enjoy lunch at the riverbank before returning to Kota Kinabalu and back to your hotel.

Day 5 Departure or Extend Tour – (B)

Following breakfast, at own leisure in the morning until check-out (1200 hrs). Then transfer to the airport for departure flight or extend tour.
