Itinerary
The Danum Valley Field Centre was set up in 1986 to support scientists studying the rainforest. It is equipped with laboratories, a conference room, researcher living quarters, dormitories, camp grounds, and a cafeteria. It is first and foremost a research centre for the Danum Valley Conservation Area and was not originally designed with tourists in mind. However, the centre does open its doors to visitors. It offers travellers a budget option for visiting Danum Valley and experiencing its magnificent rainforest and wildlife. The Danum Valley Field Center is recommended for adventurous travellers who don’t mind basic but comfortable accommodation.
Day 1 Lahad Datu – Danum Valley Field Centre (L/D)
Be met at Lahad Datu Airport around 0830 hours and go to the nearby reception office. 0930 hours depart Lahad Datu and transfer to Danum Valley. Arrive around 12 noon and check-in after a briefing by Danum Valley Field Centre staff. Meet your guide, settle-in and enjoy lunch.
1500 hours go on a mid-afternoon walk in search of wildlife in the Borneo rainforest. The area surrounding the center teems with wildlife and it is not unusual for you to spot resident orang utan, hornbills, etc. Return to the centre before sundown and enjoy dinner at 1900 hours. 2000 hours go on a 4×4 night drive in search of nocturnal wildlife. Overnight in a resthouse room at DVFC.
Day 2 Danum Valley Field Centre (B/L/D)
After breakfast go trekking in the rainforest and return to the centre around 1230 hours. 1500 hours go on another trek. After dinner, go on a night walk with your guide. Overnight in reshouse room at DVFC.
Day 3 Danum Valley Field Centre – Lahad Datu (B)
Earlym morning guided walk then return for breakfast. Check out and return to Lahad Datu, arriving around 1300 hours.

The Danum Valley Field Centre is suitable for travellers who are content with basic, clean and comfortable facilities.
