The Danum Valley Field Centre was set up in 1986 to support scientists studying the rainforest. It is equipped with laboratories, a conference room, researcher living quarters, dormitories, camp grounds, and a cafeteria. It is first and foremost a research centre and was not originally designed with tourists in mind. However, the centre does open its doors to visitors. It offers travellers a budget option for visiting Danum Valley and experiencing its magnificent rainforest and wildlife. The Danum Valley Field Center is recommended for adventurous travellers who don’t mind basic but comfortable accommodation.

The area surrounding the center teems with wildlife and it is not unusual for you to spot resident orang utan, hornbills, etc. Return to the centre before sundown and enjoy dinner at 1900 hours. After dinner, go on an included night walk with your guide or arrange for an optional 4×4 night drive (additional activity at your own expense).
