Itinerary

Day 1 Lahad Datu – Borneo Rainforest Lodge (L/D)

Pick up from Lahad Datu airport and transfer to the reception office in Lahad Datu town. Register and have a briefing on the activities and facilities at Danum Valley. Depart at 0930 hours and transfer by road (2 hours) to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Attend a brief orientation before lunch. In the afternoon, depart for a guided walk on a nature trail (400 m boardwalk circuit) and the 300 m canopy walkway. In the evening, have dinner at the lodge. If weather permits, go for a night drive in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 2 Coffin Trail (B/L/D)

Following breakfast, depart for a trek along the “Coffin Trail” that leads to an ancient Kadazan-Dusun burial site. It’s a 3 km return trip, involving a 40-minute climb to a magnificent lookout point. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon go on another jungle trek in search of wildlife or opt for a relaxing session of tubing down the Danum River. After dinner, depart for a night walk in search of nocturnal creatures. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 3 Danum Valley – Lahad Datu (B/L)

A leisurely breakfast followed by at own leisure. Have lunch followed by check out. Then depart at 1330 hours for the scheduled transfer to Lahad Datu airport for flight out.

Note

Effective 1 April 2026, Borneo Rainforest Lodge will amend its standard Danum Valley tours. The first day will now be spent island hopping and snorkelling on the coast near Lahad Datu, not at Danum Valley itself.  In the lodge’s ‘Coastal and Rainforest Escape’ tour programme guests will only arrive in Danum Valley between 6 and 7 pm.   As most of our clients prefer to maximise their time at Danum Valley, we are not offering the ‘Coastal and Rainforest Escape’’ tour you may see elsewhere.  Instead, guests booking our Danum Valley tours will be picked up at Lahad Datu airport and proceed straight to Danum Valley on Day 1.
