The Taste of Borneo Cooking Class introduces you to the cuisine and culture of Sabah. It offers you a chance to learn about the daily life of a family living in Kota Kinabalu. The tour offers a unique experience of a local family opening up their home, kitchen and family recipe book to travellers who are interested in gaining insights into the culture of Sabah through its food.
0900-0915 hours pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and travel to Penampang on the outskirts of the city to begin your Borneo Cooking Class. Stop at Penampang market or ‘tamu’ and meet your local instructor. Learn about the local produce found in the market and how the locals choose the best vegetables, meats and spices, which vary from season to season. After shopping at the market head to one of the oldest villages in the Penampang area. You’ll be welcomed like family, shown secret family recipes and start to learn how to cook like a Sabahan. You will slice, grind and chop local ingredients for a menu of local delicacies. After preparation and cooking you can sit back and enjoy the meal prepared by you and your host family. After saying goodbye to your hosts return to Kota Kinabalu with a souvenir recipe book. Arrive back at your hotel around 1400 hours.
