Itinerary

Day 1 Kuching – Maludam (L/D)

Maludam National Park covers an area of 53,568 hectares and was first gazetted as a protected area in 2000. The park is situated on the Maludam Peninsula between the Saribas River to the north and the Lupar River to the south. It is located 130 kilometres from Kuching. Maludam is comprised almost entirely of low-lying peat swamp forest and is the largest tract of peat swamp remaining in Sarawak.

The park is home to the incredibly rare red banded langur. There are thought to be only 300 red banded langurs living in Maludam. Other wildlife found in the park includes proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs, long-tailed macaques, crocodiles, monitor lizards and flying foxes.

Pick-up from your hotel at 0800 hours and travel by road for approximately 3 hours until we reach the Lupar River. Here we take a ferry to Triso and then continue by road to Maludam. Arrive in Maludam around midday and have lunch in a local coffee shop. After lunch check in to your budget hotel. 1500 hours go on a boat cruise to the Maludam River estuary (tide and weather permitting).  Pass through the village and continue to the mangroves near the estuary. Crocodiles, monitor lizards and long-tailed macaque monkeys are often seen in this stretch of the river. Return to village around 1600 hours. We then take a stroll around the Malay village followed by dinner in local coffee shop. Overnight in a budget hotel in Maludam.

Day 2 Maludam National Park – Kuching (B/L)

After breakfast, go on a wildlife watching cruise in Maludam National Park. As your boat navigates the narrow, tannin-stained river, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. Proboscis monkeys are a common sight, often spotted in the trees along the riverbank. While sightings of the elusive red-banded langur are very rare, you might also spot silvered langurs, long-tailed macaques, monitor lizards and a range of birdlife. Return to you hotel around 11 am. Freshen up and then check out at noon. We have lunch in the village before returning to Kuching, arriving around 1700 hours.
